THE
KILLER METEORS features Jackie Chan but he is not the main star in this movie.
Not only is he not the main star, he is a bad guy. The movie is still entertaining
in a Saturday morning Kung Fu theater way. This won't be your demo disc when
your friends come over but it's like all the other Simitar releases. That
means it's pan and scan and a VHS quality picture.
As I mentioned before, the picture is not letter-boxed.
The panning and scanning is better than some of the other Simitar releases.
The overall picture is quality is below average for a DVD. That means that
it is like an EP VCR tape. I can't really blame Simitar for the quality since
the source material is old and probably wasn't kept in the best of shape.
The soundtrack sounds a little muddy at times but for the most part isn't
unpleasant. Like the picture, the soundtrack shows it's age.
There were no subtitles although there was an option for a Mandarin soundtrack.
The same Jackie Chain interview I believe is also on other Simitar releases.
The menus and "extras" are very plain.
Overall, THE KILLER METEORS is an entertaining movie and
has some good fight scenes. Just don't get this movie expecting Jackie Chan
to be in every scene. He's barely in it. I liked it because it was fun to
watch. Simitar DVD's are probably the cheapest out there and for $10 or even
less sometimes, it's not too bad a deal. If you have the VHS versions, don't
bother with the DVD. I can't imagine that this is an improvement.
I am always pretty easy going when it comes to the Simitar
Jackie Chan DVD's. For the most part, these are all old movies that weren't
taken care of. The existing prints are probably all bad and not the original.
These aren't $39 Media Asia DVD's, these are $10. I would feel a lot worse
if I paid more. I don't think there is more than a $3 difference between the
DVD and VHS. Even though they aren't even near perfect, Simitar is giving
people a chance to watch some movies that may not have been able to see otherwise.
Die hard Jackie Chan fans will want these DVD's because they are an easy way
of building a catalog of Jackie's early movies.
