Chow Yun-Fat and Conan Lee play two mis-matched cops that are forced to work together to stop a heroin smuggling ring. TIGER ON BEAT is an action comedy that will please fans of Chow Yun-Fat that like to see him show his lighter side. I have wanted to get this movie for a long time but every time I had ordered it from various online retailers the sound was severely out of sync. It was un-watchable. I finally ordered from HiViZone.com and received a good DVD.

The picture was acceptable. There were no splice marks or scratches in the print. Occasionally the print would look a little worn and slightly washed out by nothing distracting.

The sound was a 5.1 re-mix. The sound effects were very lacking. The gunshots were very weak and there were times when it really took away from the movie. Chow Yun-Fat wields a shotgun in one scene and it barely makes a coughing sound. I am not sure how the original track sounded. If they go through the trouble of re-mixing these movies they should at least fix these things. Other than the weak gun sounds, the overall sound quality was decent.

I watched the movie with the Cantonese soundtrack and English subtitles. The subtitles were in sync with the dialogue and were free of distracting spelling errors and awkward translations.

The extras include several trailers for Chow Yun-Fat's other movies. Some aren't subtitled and some are very out of sync. There are trailers for PRISON ON FIRE, PRISON ON FIRE II, ALL ABOUT AH LONG, and HONG KONG 1941.

I enjoyed TIGER ON BEAT and found it fun to watch. It's great to see Chow Yun-Fat in show his comedic side. If you plan on getting the DVD, you may want to consider ordering it from HiViZone. That is the only place I managed to get one that had the sound in sync. That's after trying three different places and returning them for replacements with the same problem.
