Dreadnaught stars Yuen Biao as the timid Mousy who yearns to be a student of Wong Fei Hong but feels he is not up to the task. A dangerous criminal named White Tiger comes to town and starts committing murders. When Mousy's best friend becomes White Tiger's next victim and Wong Fai Huang is wounded, it is up to Mousy to avenge his friends death.
Considering the film's age, the picture quality is very good. There are some specks in the print but other than that the transfer is very good. The colors and fleshtones are also done well. This transfer is better than average with the only flaws really being in the source print that was used.
The sound is a 5.1 re-mix but it is pretty well done. The soundtrack was pretty clean without any pops and crackles that some older movies have. The sound effects and music didn't overpower the dialogue. Most, if not all the sound came from the front speakers. I don't think the rear speakers were used at all. Overall, the sound is average.
The subtitles contained some spelling errors but they were not too distracting. The were timed well and easy to read. The subtitles do appear on the bottom black bar of the letterbox so you will not see these on a widescreen TV.
If you
are a fan of this movie, definitely get the DVD. You will be very pleased
with it. I enjoyed the movie but it seems very slow moving at times. The
movie drags in between the fight scenes. DREADNAUGHT does deserve a watch
not only to to see Yuen Biao in action, but to see Kwan Tak Hing as Huang
Fei Hong. You may want to rent this before deciding on buying.
