THE INSPECTOR WEARS SKIRTS stars Sibelle Hu as a tough trainer of an elite female commando unit of the police academy. Just when the students think they are at their peak of training, Cynthia Rothrock steps in to complete their studies and humbles them in the process. This leads to a missionwhere the female commandos team up with the male squad to thwart a jewel robbery.

Mostly comedy with some action scenes, THE INSPECTOR WEARS SKIRTS is more in the realm of POLICE ACADEMY than POLICE STORY. The movie focusses mostly on the training and interactions between the male and female cadets before they get their first assignment. Even though she isn't in the movie as much as Sibelle Hu, Cynthia Rothrock has some great action scenes. If you are a fan or Cynthia Rothrock, this is at least a rental.

The picture quality varies. The source print has some flaws. There aren't many specks in the film but the colors are a little soft. There are occasionally some scratches in the film. It looks likes the type of noise one gets when a major appliance kicks in while watching TV. The overall quality is a little less than average for some of the earlier Hong Kong DVD releases.

I watched this movie with the Cantonese soundtrack. The sound mix is pretty even. The dialogue isn't drowned out by music or effects. Most of the sound comes from the front speakers with little to practically none from the back.

The subtitles are easy to read, that is when they stay on the screen long enough to read them. They go by so quick at times it's impossible to finish reading them before they disappear. There are few if any spelling or grammatical errors and they do appear on the image of the film and not the bottom black bar.

INSPECTOR WEARS SKIRTS may disappoint you if you are looking for a movie like the IN THE LINE OF DUTY series. If you enjoy a comedy with a little action mixed in, then this is worth a watch. Cynthia Rothrock is great in this movie even if she is in it very little.
