A young Jet Li stars in KIDS FORM SHAOLIN. When a small village is being plundered by a group of bandits, a man and his brother heroically rescue the children. The children, all boys, are raised to study Shaolin kung fu. Across the river lives a man and his family who study a Sword technique. The man has several girls. After ten years, the bandits plan on getting revenge by turning both families against each other.
If you are a Jet Li fan, this movie shouldn't disappoint you. Even though there are a lot of kids, they never get annoying. The movie has a certain charm that makes it very watchable. You have to like a movie that has a fight sequence as the entire third act.

The picture quality isn't bad for a film of this age. The transfer holds up on the wide screen TV with some shimmering at times but definitely acceptable. If you have a 27 inch TV the transfer will look very good. The black levels and the colors are fine. The print is in pretty good shape and there are minor specks at times but overall this is a better than average transfer.
The audio has options for both 5.1 and 2.0 Dolby Digital sound. I opted for the stereo soundtrack in Cantonese. There is some noise in the track early on in the movie but it just a couple of pops and it stops. The mixing is done well. The dialogue is never drowned out by the music and sound effects. Overall, the soundtrack is acceptable.

The subtitles are easy to read and appear on the print so you shouldn't have any difficulty if you have a wide screen TV. There are few spelling and grammatical errors.
Extras consist of a trailer, a "YOUNG JET LI" featurette and one additional trailer. The featurette is fun to watch. jet must be about 8 years old when he is performing for the first segment. There are some clips of him as he gets older. It's very interesting to watch. I didn't see any subtitles on this segment.

If you like Jet Li and old school Kung FU, you should
be happy with this movie. The movie has some comedic elements but it's not
"goofy" comedy. The fights are really good in this movie and the
last half hour is worth the price of the DVD alone.
