There are two ways of looking at this DVD. The first is to say it is a waste of money and that the quality in no way does justice to the format. The second way of looking at it is that for a real low price you got a DVD that is entertaining and gives people a side of Jackie Chan that they would never see if they have just heard of him in the last couple of years. I'll explain.

The picture is not letter boxed. I would call this pan and scan but I didn't see any panning or scanning. Sometimes the speaker wasn't even in the frame or you would just see two pairs of fists punching or legs kicking when there was fighting. The picture quality itself wasn't too bad.

The sound seemed to be erratic. Sometimes it would get a little loud and then I'd readjust the volume and it would get low again.

There were no subtitles although there was an option for a Mandarin soundtrack. The same Jackie Chain interview I believe is also on other Simitar releases. The menus and "extras" are very plain. The filmographies are brief and I am sure anybody who gets this movie already knows who Jackie Chan is.

So why get this DVD? If you have the VHS version, this DVD is not worth getting. This quality is acceptable or at least forgivable on tape but a DVD needs a little more. I think Simitar knows this and that is why the low price of the DVD. It's always easy to say how the DVD should have been but who knows what the source material was like?

Watching this DVD made feel like it was Saturday morning and I was watching Kung Fu Theatre but without commercials. It's not a perfect DVD and I certainly wouldn't use it when showing friends how great DVD's can be but it's still fun to have. You could probably pick this up for $10 and the VHS from $5 to $9. If you want to own the movie, it just depends if you want to save a couple of dollars or not and go with the DVD.
