The picture quality on the 47 inch screen is about average for a non-anamorphic import. The dark scenes have a few noticeable artifacts and bright scenes also do the same. The black levels look good and the colors are just a bit washed out looking. The print itself is in good shape with few specks and imperfections. The picture should look good on smaller TV's.

The audio quality is very good and you have the choice to use either the 5.1 or 2.0 Dolby Digital mix in either Mandarin or Cantonese. I watched the movie with the 2.0 Cantonese track. The mixing is good and the dialogue is always heard over background sound effects. Overall, the sound is about average when compared to other imports DVD's.

Andy Lau portrays a thief who is terminally ill with cancer and has a mere few weeks to live. Lau Ching Wan is the cop he chooses for a little game. If Lau Ching Wan can arrest him and bring him to the police station, the cop wins. The thief's plan is to exchange jewels and diamonds he stole for cash from a bald Waise Lee (A BETTER TOMORROW).

RUNNING OUT OF TIME plays put like a chess game. Both Andy Lau's and Lau Ching Wan's characters are like players calculating the other's move. The two characters even grow to respect each other. While the thief uses the cop, he does everything willing, firmly believing that when the game is over, he will have won. The acting is really great in this movie. Andy Lau is excellent as the cancer ridden thief and Lau Ching Wan brings a great depth to his role. While the movie contains a minimum of action scenes, it keeps moving at a good pace and seldom drags.

The subtitles appear are removable but appear on the picture. There are a few spelling and grammatical errors. One or two are rather comical.

The extras consist of a theatrical trailer and a trailer for SEALED WITH A KISS.

If you are a fan of Johnny To, Lau Ching Wah, or Andy Lau, this DVD is a must see. The acting, story, camera work, and music all blend perfectly together to make an entertaining movie. If you enjoyed THE LONGEST NIGHT, this movie is right up your alley.
