WING CHUN is a fun movie. If you are a Michelle Yeoh fan you should really pick this up. Typical of the DVD's that Tai Seng re-mastered, the DVD is definitely a keeper. I wish they could have kept this up with other movies instead of just distributing the imports. When released there was a bad batch that caused some problems on some players but my DVD has always played properly. This has since been corrected and you will get a good disc if you bought one today. That is, if you can find one. It is getting more and more difficult to find this title.
WING CHUN features Michelle Yeoh as the main character, Yim Wing Chun. This movie is part comedy, part romance, and all action. Wing Chun is the best martial artist in town and she is always tested by local bandits. During one challenge, she offers to admit defeat if a plate of tofu can be knocked of a table. Michelle does some incredible moves to keep the tofu from being knocked over. The challenger leaves defeated. When a young widow comes to town and needs money to bury her husband, Wing Chun and her aunt offer to take her in and they give her a job in their Tofu store. The widow is given a makeover and she becomes a Tofu beauty and the men go wild, trying to buy tofu from her. Wing Chun's aunt, is in love with a scholar but he only has eyes for the new young widow. Wing Chun's childhood sweatheart comes to town (Donnie Yen) and mistakes Wing Chun for a man because of the way she dresses. He mistakes the widow for Wing Chun. A bandit tries to kidnap the widow but is fought off. He even gets his manhood burned off by Wing Chun in one battle. This causes the head bandit to seek out Wing Chun for a challenge.
The
trailers are always great to watch. There are the trailers for Heroic Trio,
The Executioners, Bride With White hair and two others. The filmogrraphies
are nice to have on there and they are interesting to read whether you are
new to the genre or not.
If you like Michelle Yeoh and a lot of great fight scenes,
this is definitely a great one to get.
