YOUNG AND DANGEROUS 5 once again continues the story of the Hung Hing gang led by Ho Nam (Ekin Cheng). The new boss is taking Ho Nam in a new direction. No more fights, it's all about money and power. This leads Ho
Nam to get involved in a real estate and cruise deal but it goes sour. If that's not bad enough, somebody who shares his name is trying to take over his territory. Ho Nam finds a very unlikely ally in the form of a cop portrayed by Danny Lee. The cop knows the score with the gangs. He just wants to keep the peace. Ho Nam finds that having a dialogue with the police can be a good thing.

Y&D 5 is best for fans of the series. While the story isn't anything new, it's the characters that drive these movies. There is more of a focus on Ekin Cheng since Chicken (Jordan Chan) doesn't appear in this film. The interaction of the secondary characters continues to enrich the story. Anthony Wong and Sandra NG reprise there roles from previous installments and they steal every scene they are in. This movie has a boxing match at the end and I can't help but think of all those teen movies from the 80's where the person who won the competition at the end was the one who was right. Details are left out to avoid spoilers, of course.

The picture quality is pretty good. This DVD is non-anamorphic but it held up fairly well when zoomed in with the Malata. The print is in good shape and the colors are good. The transfers does show some artifacts in some of
the darker scenes but overall acceptable.

The audio is so much better than it was on Y&D 4. The mix is good and the dialogue can be heard throughout the movie. I don't think the rear speakers were used once. The audio is about average when compared to more recent import DVD's.

The subtitles are not burned in and stay on the screen long enough to be read. There are some spelling and grammatical errors but nothing to distract from the movie. For some reason, songs never get subtitled in this whole series.

Extras consist of a trailer which is mostly scenes from the entire series and is just about identical to what is shown during the ending credit sequence.

Y&D 5 isn't one of the strongest in the series but you will want to check it out if you are a big Y&D fan. If you haven't seen any movies in the Y&D series, you might want to skip this one until you've seen some of the prior ones.
